Ironman Wales is one of the most popular endurance events in the country, attracting around 2,500 athletes from all over the world to test their fitness on the mammoth course in Tenby. So beloved is the event that is has earned the town the name ‘Iron Town’. The race begins with a 2.4-mile sunrise swim on Tenby's North Beach before a 112-mile bike ride around the undulating Pembrokeshire hills, finally culminating in 26.2-mile, marathon-length run through Tenby’s town centre, which is packed with supporters and fans of the event. The fastest competitors will complete the course in around 9 hours; not only is it an achievement in itself to finish this event, but it also serves as a qualifier for the world championship in Hawaii.
