A dog friendly day out in Pembrokeshire

Days out with your four-legged best friend

Pembrokeshire has so much choice for dog friendly days out and is the perfect holiday location for pet friendly holidays, so it’s hard to select just one dog friendly day out for you to enjoy with your pet. However, here is one suggestion for a good doggie day out for you and your four legged friend.

Tenby has a superb choice of beaches and walks to choose from and although there are dog restrictions on the main bathing beaches during the summer months, at all other times of the year dogs are welcome. During the summer the best option would be to head for the further section of South Beach leading to Penally and the coast path beyond at Giltar Point. The long sandy beach is perfect for a good run and chasing a ball, and if your dog likes to swim then this beach is perfect for that too.

At the far end of the beach, head up to Giltar Point along the footpath and please keep your dog on a lead as the headlands are grazed by sheep, cattle and horses. The views to Caldey Island and St. Margaret’s Island are beautiful and the sea air up here is superb. From here you can either head towards Lydstep if you want a long walk, or head back towards Penally if you want a shorter walk. Both Lydstep and Penally have cosy village pubs where dogs are welcome, so are perfect for a pit stop where you can enjoy a drink and a bite to eat, and of course water is provided for dogs. Then either take a walk around the village(s) and explore the country lanes before heading back to Tenby again along the South Beach.
