A gorgeous, 18th-century cottage, with a colourful history as a smuggler’s inn, this exquisite, secluded hideaway enjoys exceptional privacy from its position overlooking Pwll Du Beach, near Bishopston, on the Gower Peninsula. Sleeping eight guests, but with the possibility of two extras on a sofa bed, and with an adjoining, one-bedroom annexe for a further four guests, it is the perfect retreat for an extended family or group stay. Stroll less than 500 metres down to the tranquil, sandy beach to swim, surf and picnic or venture 2 miles to Pobbles Bay. The village of Mumbles, with its spectrum of shops and eateries is 4 miles from the cottage, while the city of Swansea is 10 miles from the property.

Enter the main cottage to find characterful accommodation with a myriad of features, including flagstone flooring throughout the ground floor. Choose between the main lounge or the lounge/diner, both with underfloor heating and comfortable seating. Light the wood burner in the inglenook fireplace in the lounge and settle down together to watch TV. There is a double sofa bed in here too. Prepare hearty feasts for your family and friends in the characterful kitchen then sit at the table in the vaulted dining room, gazing out at the greenery of the garden. Climb the stairs up to the split-level landing, which leads to all three bedrooms. The first of these is a spacious super-king-size room with wooden flooring and a vaulted ceiling. Next up is the cosy double room, bathed in natural light and including an additional single bed. The final bedroom is the quirky family room featuring a double bed with a single bed over it. It has a fresh and bright en-suite shower room. Completing the first floor is the family bathroom with a fabulous free-standing bath with a shower over it.

Follow the stone steps up to the charming, enclosed, lawned garden. Dine out here as you soak up the magical sea views. Gather fresh eggs from the free-range chickens for your breakfast if you wish.

  • In very extreme cases, if the small river floods and then access is by foot only via the beach or a woodland path
  • Guests leave their car in a residential area, 1 mile from the property; the owners will collect them from a meeting point on arrival and transport them to their destination
  • Guests are welcome to bring their own 4X4 if they are confident to drive off road and are liable for their own car
  • The track is rough and steep, and cars may get scratched, but the owner is happy to talk guests through the access route
  • To ensure a comfortable stay, we advise guests to bring enough food for the duration of their stay.
