Cottages in Saundersfoot
Saundersfoot is a picture postcard seaside village in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, nestled on the south Pembrokeshire coastline in West Wales and is renowned for its award winning golden sandy beach and clean, crystal clear waters. A popular holiday resort, the village boasts a fine selection of cafes, bars and restaurants to suite all tastes and budgets, with the majority of restaurants proudly using fresh local Pembrokeshire produce in their menus.
The pretty harbour is still a working harbour where fishing boats land daily with their catch of shellfish for distribution all over the UK and abroad. Pleasure trips and fishing excursions around the bay are a popular pastime in the summer months and can be booked at the kiosks on the harbour. The harbour was built in 1829 for exportation of anthracite coal from the many coal mines in the local area, and the village grew up around this industrial port, which was a thriving export centre up until the early 20th century. Saundersfoot has an interesting historical past and is well worth exploring.
Modern day Saundersfoot has seen the recent redevelopment of the harbour area which has provided visitor pontoons and moorings as well as a spacious decked area for entertainment and events. Phase two of the development will see the construction of the Marine Centre of Excellence and the National Centre for Coastal Tourism, making Saundersfoot a modern, thriving tourist destination for Pembrokeshire.
