Head to Carmarthen too; this is thought to be the oldest town in Wales, and you can visit its castle, museum and Roman amphitheatre. Venture into the Brecon Beacons National Park to see Carreg Cennen Castle, 14 miles away. Pick up footpaths through the picturesque landscape while you are here. Drive 22 miles down to Llansteffan to see its castle and to go to the beach, with its wide, open sands to play on and rock pools to explore.
