Set in the stunning Carmarthenshire mountains, the holiday experience & cottage stays on offer at Cwmiar represent a unique getaway for the whole family to enjoy. Cwmiar Farm is a working farm, where the old stone out-buildings have been converted into comfortable and cosy, self-catering holiday cottages, sheltered by the southwestern slope of Llanllwni mountain, it is situated just a few miles from the small market town of Llanybydder and perfectly accessible for the nearby Brechfa forest trails and picturesque towns that you can visit and explore. A frequent visitor to the cottages once described Cwmiar as being “away from it all, but not miles from anywhere“, which is so true – it really feels like being in a different world and yet places of interest and discovery are just a short drive away.
All of the cottages are unique spaces, that maintain their ‘olde worlde’ feeling, whilst ensuring that all modern conveniences are covered. They come equipped with fridge-freezers, washer, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, TV’s & DVD players, as well as WiFi, but the charm of the stone buildings and wooden beams that date back to hundreds of years ago remains.
Three of thee cottages can accommodate wheelchair users, and hoists and other equipment can be hired for your stay if we have some advanced warning. Wheelchair users can join in with most of the activities here, and it is the express mission of the cottage owners that Cwmiar is to be a place of inclusion, as well as experience.
When children are having a wonderful holiday, their parents and grandparents can relax and enjoy their holiday too – and that’s how it is at Cwmiar – children can get involved in feeding and looking after the animals, as much or as little as they like (as can everyone) and there are two playgrounds, with slides, zip-wire, swings, tree houses, sandpits and trampolines, as well as an indoor clubhouse with snooker, skittles, table-tennis and various toys for keeping everyone happy if it rains.
There’s also space where ball games can be played, and in the stable yard are push-along toys and scooters to play with, while those who want to, can make a fuss of the horses when they are in their stables. Cwmiar Farm offers guests a ‘free-range’ farm experience that is simply unforgettable.
With geese, chickens, ducks, pigs and sheep to feed, horses and cows to check up on in the summer and feed in winter (we’re open all year round) dogs to play with and make a fuss of and cats to stroke, there is plenty to keep us all busy during the day – and sleeping soundly at night. For those who are horse mad, the lovely family and friends at Blanca Trekking (only a few minutes’ away) are always happy to welcome our guests to see their horses, even if they don’t want to go riding, and of course are happy to take them out across the wonderful mountain (amazing views) if they do.
Walkers, bird-watchers, cyclists, horse-riders, fishermen, golfers, canoeists, beach-lovers, explorers and just plain lazy-bones can all have a fantastic holiday at Cwmiar. Many of our regular guests all meet up here year after year, and some of the ‘children’ are now well into their teens and still want to come back next year – it’s amazing – and wonderful for me.
Despite being a working farm since the 17th Century, with a wide variety of animals across it’s sprawling acres, Cwmiar is a dog-friendly farm holiday experience. Dogs are welcome in all of the cottages.
We ask that dog owners are considerate, as some of the farm animals may be expecting young or rearing their newborns, depending on when you stay, and we wouldn’t want to worry new or expectant mothers, but dogs are more than welcome to stay with you during your stay at Cwmiar.
