You may ask, what exactly is the Urdd National Eisteddfod? Well, its an annual Welsh –language youth festival of performing arts, music and literature and as its website explains: “Urdd Gobaith Cymru’s aim is to provide the opportunity, through the medium of Welsh, for the children and young people in Wales to become fully rounded individuals, developing personal and social skills that will enable them to make a positive contribution to the community.”
This national festival is one of Europe’s largest youth festivals attracting over 15,000 children and young people under the age of 25 to compete in various events such as singing, dancing and performing and who have won their place in regional rounds to compete at the Urdd National Eisteddfod.
The Urdd National Eisteddfod is held in a different location in Wales each year and in 2018 will be held in Brecon & Radnorshire at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells from 28th May to 2nd June.
The event attracts large crowds and there is plenty to see an do, including the ‘Maes’ where you will find hundreds of stalls offering a variety of activities, live bands and lots of interesting exhibitions.
