Summer in Pembrokshire

Pembrokeshire truly is an unspoilt paradise which has something to offer for everyone.  Therefore, it’s not surprising, there are so many reasons you should make it your summer holiday destination this year!

The Beaches

Many of the beaches along Pembrokeshire’s coastline are award winning! What’s more they are all unique and offer a different experience, so you will be able to find the perfect one to suit your interests, desires or hobbies! We recommend popping down to Barafundle Bay for a picnic, or spending the day snoozing on any of Tenby’s gorgeous sandy beaches. If you’re a keen surfer, or even a beginner, Whitesands Bay is just one of the swell beaches you can catch some waves. Check out this blog post for more surfing inspiration.

History and Heritage

There are many castles, standing proud throughout the county which offer a fantastic day out for all the family. Many also hold events throughout the summer so make sure you check out their what’s on pages. You don’t certainly won’t want to miss out on all the action!  Carew Castle and Tidal Mill and Pembroke Castle are just two glorious castles which provide excellent entertainment.

You’ll also be able to go back in time at the Tudor Merchant’s House in Tenby and at Castell Henllys Iron Age Hill Fort, near Newport. Both sites offer unique, hands on experiences for children of all ages.

Additionally, make sure you take a stroll though Pleasant Valley, Stepaside to Wiseman’s Bridge if you’re interested in learning about the mining heritage of the county too. Of course, beautiful St Davids city and cathedral are also must visit attractions, you really will be charmed!

Family Friendly Attractions

Pembrokeshire County Show is held annually in August and is just one of the many family friendly events you can enjoy while on your summer holiday in Pembrokeshire. Other not to be missed attractions include Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo and Heatherton; both are just a short drive from Tenby.

If you’re children love to get their hands dirty, then be sure to book them in on a bush craft session with Buzzard Chris, or get them rock pooling with the Darwin Centre.

Adventure Sports and Hiking

Pembrokeshire is a big outdoor playground, so if you’re hoping to get active while on your summer holiday, you won’t be stuck for things to do.

The Preseli Hills and the Gwaun Valley offer some fantastic riding, hiking and biking, as well as glorious views to boot. Pack up your picnics and get adventuring!

Walking stretches of Pembrokeshire’s Coast Path is a wonderful way to see the county, and in summertime it’ll be in full glory. Solva and The Cribin coastal walk, Dinas Island stroll and Southwood Coast to Coast walk are just some of the trails the National Trust recommends you try this summer.

In addition, Pembrokeshire is a big draw for those enthusiastic about climbing and coasteering. Coasteering was actually invented by TYF, in St Davids, so make sure you have a go at this thrilling, memory making activity.

So you see, Pembrokeshire has plenty to offer for a perfect summer holiday! There surely aren’t many other places where you can spend a morning moseying around a castle, and then snooze on a glorious sandy beach in the afternoon?!
