Get Together This Twixmas

Twixmas is the time of year between the Christmas and New Year. It is often when people take the time to see family and friends, take stock of the last year and plan for the New Year. As a result, it is also a time many people take a proper break before busy everyday life starts again.

If you’re considering taking a twixmas break you will be able to make the most of the spectacular natural landscapes Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion have to offer by visiting West Wales. There are therefore endless opportunities for strolls in the countryside and to breathe in some invigorating fresh sea air.

One of our favourite places to visit at twixmas is the stunning Bosheston Lily Ponds, near Pembroke. It’s usually quite popular with locals but we don’t mind sharing it with visitors. Although the lilies aren’t out at this time of year it’s a wonderful wildlife haven, so you’ll be almost guaranteed to see Herons, and many other types of birds. There are also resident otters which you may be able to get a sneak peek at. It takes about an hour and a half to walk around the ponds and in the middle, you’ll come across the popular Broadhaven South beach, wonderfully open sandy beach with dog walkers and surfers.

A lovely winter trail not to be missed in Carmarthenshire is the one which runs along the River Teifi, between Cenarth and Newcastle Emlyn. The river is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest as many endangered and rare species are found along it and the route holds a lot of history, so it is a great one to do with those who are less enthusiastic about walking. The cosy Riverside Café in Newcastle Emlyn is somewhere you can pop into for a warm up, a hot chocolate and/or a delicious vegetarian lunch after your wintery stroll. A map of the route and more information can be found here: http://www.discovercarmarthenshire.com/media/2434/newcastle-emlyn.pdf

Explore Ceredigion this twixmas and take a walk along the section of the coastal path which runs between Gwbert to Cardigan along the Teifi Estuary. This walk is graded as easy and can be made into a 6 mile circular stroll. It runs through farmland and enables you to get a stunning view over Poppit Sands and out into Cardigan Bay. Once you’ve finished your walk you can pop into one of our favourite eateries, Crwst for a well-earned treat. Beautiful wintery walks are just one draw for visitors to stay with FBM Holidays over the festive period. You will also be able make the most of your stunning home from home. There is nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa with your loved ones and enjoying the usual festive TV schedule or playing games. Some of the fabulous selection of properties we have for you to choose from have lovely features such as wood fires and modern kitchens. Some even offer sea or countryside views and you don’t need to leave the dog or cat behind with our pet friendly properties.
