Christmas and New Year in Tenby

Festivities for all the family

So, the kids are back in school this week and your family holiday break to Pembrokeshire this summer seems a millions years ago, and if you’re anything like me you are already thinking where to go next summer. But summer 2017 seems such a long way off, so this is around about the time I start considering a Christmas or New Years break.

It’s the perfect time of year to go. Typically, everything shuts over the Christmas period, at least for a few days, so you don’t have to worry about getting the time off work so much. Plus, in Pembrokeshire, the festive seasons have that magical, relaxing quality about it, although there is plenty to do if you want to.

Tenby hosts the Boxing Day swim and Saundersfoot hosts the New Years Day swim annually, and each event will see hundreds of swimmers head into the chilly waters usually in fancy dress, all in aid of local charities. Not only is it an event to take part in but also a wonderful spectacle to watch. (I’ll watch my children go in and hold the towels, someone has to – although, I have braved the New Years Day swim for the last two years!!) There are festive markets galore in the lead up to the big day, and many sell wonderful locally sourced products, great gifts for all the family.

New Years Eve is well celebrated locally and many towns and villages will have firework displays and events throughout the evening. Tudor Square in Tenby is one of the busiest places with revellers partying until the early hours. We usually take advantage of one of the squares’ many restaurants and watch the partygoers make merry out in the cold.

Another thing that Pembrokeshire has, is some lovely places to stay.

There are loads of different types of accommodation you could consider for your Festive break but a self catering cottage might be the best option, and for various reasons. It will be more value for money than booking a hotel or Bed and Breakfast and you can make it more of a family occasion. You can choose the size of the cottage or apartment you want, so if it’s just you and your dog, or you and the whole family – including granny and grandad – you’ll have a great selection, from cosy rural cottages to Tenby Harbour front apartments. Whatever type of place you wish to go for, it’s more like a home from home; you can relax, come and go when you want, and if you don’t fancy cooking on Christmas day lots of the local restaurants provide wonderful Christmas lunches.

So why not take advantage of a festive break and imagine yourself walking across one of Pembrokeshire wonderful sandy beaches wrapped up in your winter woollies? That’s what we do, and we thoroughly recommend it.

FBM Holidays has a wonderful selection of self catering accommodation throughout Pembrokeshire ranging from 3 to 5 stars, so whatever your budget this Christmas, I’m sure there will be something for you. Call today on 01834 844565 for more information on your festive break to Pembrokeshire.
