For a captivating journey back through time, take a visit to the beautiful village of Nevern. Wrapped up in history and surrounded by the glorious Welsh countryside, delve into the ancient mysteries that the village presents, and unwrap the magical atmosphere that is exposed through its medieval architecture and vivid surroundings.

The fact that Nevern is not very well known to tourists, gives it the advantage of being a tranquil resort in which you can take the time to let the peaceful scenery melt away your stresses, and be awe inspired by this picturesque village, which holds many riches beyond the imagination. Its mysterious legends and fascinating background make it appealing to history enthusiasts, and also to couples that want a relaxing but yet exciting weekend break.

Situated in South West Wales, and close to the nearby village of Fishguard, Nevern gives you the chance to explore the Northern side of the Pembrokeshire Coast, along with the opportunity to take a short drive into the historical market town of Cardigan.

The area is also very popular with hikers, and presents many enjoyable walks over the landscape capturing the essence of the village in a unique way.

Within the village, take an historical tour and visit the site of Nevern Church. With its outstanding architectural qualities, and historical assets, the Church is an interesting attraction it its own right. Located along the ancient pilgrimage route to St David’s, it is famous for its ancient routes, and is also the site of the Vitalianus stone, and the impressive 13ft high Celtic cross. It is within the Church grounds that you can also see the legendary bleeding yew. It is part of several ancient legends that exists, telling the stories of why the tree bleeds. It is said that one of the reasons it does so, is for the wrongful hanging of a young man who died many years ago as well as the legend that it will stop bleeding when the world is at peace.

From here, continue your walk north, until you reach the ancient site of Nevern Castle. Originally a Motte and Bailey castle, the heaped mounds of earth can still be seen, however it was after this, in the 12th century that it was replaced by a masonry castle. Traces of the masonry walls are still embedded within the ground, and still set a theatrical display for a scene into ancient history and Welsh culture.

Within this secluded valley, call into the “Trewern Arms”, a quaint, cosy 16th century Inn, serving a wonderful selection of Welsh cuisine, along with the chance to relax in the calm serenity of the stunning environment.

In August, enjoy the extra pleasure of visiting the annual Nevern Show, get up close to the local agriculture and take your time exploring the unique craft stalls all set within the beautiful surrounds of the rich countryside.

Near here, you can also visit the ancient Neolithic site of “Castell Henllys” a reconstructed Iron Age hill fort, or the ancient monument of “Pentre Ifan”. With all these attractions set within the beauty of the glorious countryside, a trip to Nevern, will be an exquisite, unforgettable experience that everyone will enjoy.
